St. Joseph Sweeps Fisher College For Softball Championship

(Rutland, Vt.)- The College of St. Joseph swept Fisher College 24-2 and 9-0 to capture the Sunrise Conference / Region X championship on April 19.

     

 
The Fighting Saints now advance to the Region IX meet May 7-9.
 
Irene Tompkins went 4-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and four runs to lead St. Joseph in the opener. Maria Filiberto went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs. Jessica Ruebel and Melissa Pike each had three hits and three RBIs. Pike also allowed just one hit with six strikeouts in five innings on the mound.
 
Nicole Blanchard went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Fisher. Jackie Streeter was 2-for-2 and Sonya Newton took the loss on the mound.
 
In the nightcap Lory Lansburg banged out three hits and scored three times to lead the Fighting Saints. Filiberto was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Lisa Lawrence gave up five hits and struck out three in five innings.
 

Jessica Augusta was 3-for-3 for Fisher. Michelle Oliverio had two hits and Streeter surrendered 10 hits and five walks with six strikeouts in four innings.
