Anthony Perry, a 2008 Fisher College graduate from Andover, Mass. has signed a professional contract to play for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League.
Perry, a three-time NAIA All-Region player for Fisher, received the call he has been waiting for since he was playing on the little league diamonds in Andover. On the other side of the line was Blue Crabs manager, Butch Hobson. He informed Anthony that he had a roster opening and wanted him to fill it. Perry jumped at the opportunity and on the very next day Perry was headed to York, Pa. to suit up for his first professional game.
For the past three summers, Perry has served as the bullpen catcher for the Nashua Pride, where Coach Hobson was previously working.
Perry, with his career .336 batting average, holds several Fisher College All-Time records; runs scored, stolen bases, triples, and games played. The 2008 season proved to be his finest as he led the team in hits, stolen bases and runs scored and was 2nd behind 2nd Team NAIA All-American, Tom Englehardt, in batting average. Perry was the third player in Fisher College history to record a batting average of .400 or better.
Perry was recruited to go and play at Fisher College as a senior at Andover High School. As a freshman at Fisher, Perry earned a leading role as he performed well when he was called on early in the season. Since then, he was one of the key components to the success of the program. During his time at Fisher, the team was 123-75 and won 4 conference and region championships. Perry was a starter in all four seasons.
Perry is the first Fisher College Baseball player to sign a professional contract in the short seven year history of the program.
