(Lynn, Mass.)- Top-seeded Fisher College and No. 2 seed University of Maine at Presque Isle both captured wins on the opening day of the Sunrise Conference baseball tournament at Fraser field in Lynn, Mass.   The No. 1 Falcons beat No. 4 SUNY Canton 9-1 in the second game on Friday, April 24 and the Owls topped No. 3 Vermont Technical College 8-5 in the opener.

The Owls erased a 3-0 deficit by scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning.   Vermont Tech scored two more in the top half of the fourth but they were shut out the rest of the way.  Presque Isle scored the game-winning run in the sixth and tacked on two more in the eighth.

Corey Harding went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Presque Isle.  D.J. Charette also had two hits and two RBIs and A.J. Pennartz added a single and two RBIs.  Caleb Hale yielded five runs on eight hits in seven innings for the Owls.  Harding came on in relief and had one strikeout while not allowing a run or a hit in two innings of work.

The Green Knights were led by Jordan Hodge who went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Joe Clough and Justin Bara each went 2-for-4 and Daniel Cruickshank gave up eight runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in eight innings.

In the second game the Falcons had to rally from a one-run deficit after being neutralized by Roos sophomore pitcher Jeff LaDuca.  LaDuca struck out two batters and surrendered just one earned run on five hits and two walks in five innings.

The Falcons finally broke through in the sixth inning and posted four runs and added five more over the next two to secure the win.

Juan Eusebio went 2-for-3 with a double for the Falcons.  Edwin Pena went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Thomas Englehardt went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.  Jarlin Gomez fanned 13 batters and allowed just one run on six hits and two walks in eight innings.  Eddie Guerrero pitched the ninth and had two strikeouts.

Justin Storie relieved LaDuca and gave up four runs on four hits with one strikeout in two innings.  Matt Myers pitched the final inning and gave up three runs on one hit and three walks.  Adam Blair had two hits and run for the Roos.  Jacques DeMars had an RBI sacrifice fly and Adam Levy went 2-for-4 with a double.
