(Lynn, Mass.)- Top-seeded Fisher College advanced to the championship game of the Sunrise Conference baseball tournament beating No. 2 University of Maine at Presque Isle 17-6 on Saturday, April 25 at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass. The Owls, despite the loss, also advanced to Sunday's game by way of beating No. 3 Vermont Technical College Saturday night to finish with just one loss in the double elimination tournament. Vermont Tech blanked No. 4 SUNY Canton 7-0 Saturday morning.
In the afternoon game the Falcons scored 15 runs over the first four innings to pull away for the win. Gary Lunetta went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Fisher. Kevin Ryan went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a triple and Thomas Englehardt went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a triple. Fisher used five pitchers against the Owls. Samuel Luciano pitched the first five innings and struck out four while allowing just two runs on three hits. Mark Dorso pitched 1 2/3 innings and had one strikeout and one walk. Kevin Michael pitched one inning and gave up one hit. J.T. O'Neil pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed four runs on two hits and four walks and Austin Brodie pitched an inning and had one strikeout.
D.J. Charette went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Owls. A.J. Pennartz went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Max Mayer started the game and lasted 1 1/3 innings giving up seven runs on three hits and four walks. Brandon Elie pitched the next two innings and surrendered eight runs on five hits and two walks. Clint Carter yielded one run on two hits with one strikeout in 2 2/3 innings and Brandon Boulware allowed one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
In the morning game Blake Wright pitched a gem for the Green Knights as he fanned 12 batters and scattered four hits in the complete game shutout. Jeff Savage went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Joe Clough went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Adam Levy went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Roos. Nate Besaw also doubled. Justin Storie allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts in three innings. Adam Blair yielded five runs on seven hits in four innings and Levy gave up one run on one hit with one strikeout in one innings.
In the night game that sent the Owls into Sunday's championship game Pennartz was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Tyler Delaney went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Corey Harding went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Elie pitched the first two innings and struck out four with only one hit and one walk. Harding went the next seven and gave up eight runs on nine hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
Joe Hodge smacked his second home run of the weekend finishing 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Clough went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Wright went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
