(Greensburg, Pa.)- The Fisher College baseball team was eliminated in a national qualifier by Brescia University at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa.  The Bearcats were shut out by the Falcons 3-0 in the first game on May 5 but then advanced to the NAIA National Tournament posting a pair of wins on May 6, 8-1 and 7-5.

Patrick Shanahan fanned five batters and scattered six hits while pitching a complete game in the Falcons win.  Shanahan didn't allow a walk in nine strong innings on the mound.


Thomas Englehardt homered for Fisher and Edwin Pena went 2-for-4 with an RBI.


The Bearcats were led by Matt Boyd and Johnny Merrill who each banged out two hits.  Ronney Borjas and Wes Walden combine to allow seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts.


In the first game the next day Joey Barnette held the Falcons to just one earned run in 6 1/3 innings.  Barnette struck out three and surrendered seven hits.


Kevin Michael, Jarlin Gomez and Austin Brodie combined for three strikeouts and eight walks while giving up 12 hits for Fisher.


Englehardt doubled for the Falcons.  Gary Lunetta went 3-for-5 and Juan Eusabio added two hits.
Merrill and Steve Vasquez each went 3-for-5 for Brescia.


In the second game Brescia again used three pitchers to beat the Falcons and move on.  Eric Castle, Thomas Nelson and Josh Marchinoski gave up 10 hits and three walks with three strikeouts. 


Sammy Luciano and Kevin Ryan yielded nine hits and six walks with just two strikeouts.


Englehardt smacked his second homer of the week.  Lunetta ripped a pair of doubles and Ryan chipped in with a double and a triple in a 3-for-4 day at the plate.


Martel London doubled and drove in two runs for Brescia.  Merrill also doubled Vasquez and Patrick Ross each went 2-for-4.
