The Sunrise Conference recently announced their 2009 individual award winners and all-conference team in softball and Tracy Guerrette of the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Jackie Streeter of Fisher College highlighted the list. Guerrette was named Coach of the Year and Streeter Player of the Year.
Guerrette guided the Owls to the conference championship with an 8-0 conference mark and a 17-11 overall record.
Streeter led the conference and the nation in hitting (.575) and slugging percentage (.984). She also led the conference in runs scored (44), RBIs (46), and home runs (10) and was second in doubles (12) and triples (5). She was also one of the top pitchers with a conference-leading 93 strikeouts in 124 innings.
Joining Streeter on the all-conference team was Erica Davis, Brittany Humphrey, Kathleen Higgins, Emily Moore, and Danielle Humphrey of the University of Maine at Presque Isle; Brittany Calderon, Danielle Palmerino, and Michelle Oliverio of Fisher College; and Jessica Arkley and Jessica Grout of Vermont Technical College.
Davis was second in both the conference and country in batting (.561) and she had 27 runs, 24 RBIs, six home runs, and two triples. Brittany Humphrey led the conference in doubles (14) and triples (6) and batted .500 with 39 runs and 36 RBIs. Higgins batted .357 with 24 RBIs. Moore, who was also the conference Rookie of the Year, batted .313 with 11 doubles and in 88 innings she recorded a 6.63 earned-run average with 50 strikeouts. Danielle Humphrey batted .333 and scored 34 runs.
Calderon led the conference with a 5.38 ERA and was second in strikeouts (74) and innings pitched (119) and she held opponents to a .317 average. Palmerino batted just under .200 and recorded a .932 fielding percentage committing just 14 errors in 206 attempts. Oliverio batted .383 with 36 runs and 10 doubles.
Vermont Tech received the Team Sportsmanship Award.
