(Standish, Maine)- Top-seeded University of Maine at Presque Isle won the 2009 Sunrise Conference women's volleyball championship beating No. 2 University of Maine at Fort Kent 3-1 at St. Joseph's College in Standish, Maine. The Owls, who had received a bye into the title game, won 25-18, 25-20, 15-25, and 25-18.
All-conference selection Megan Korhonen passed out 26 assists and had six digs and four kills to lead the Owls.
Erica Davis, the conference Player of the Year, had 12 digs, 10 kills, and two blocks. Michelle Ferry, who joined Davis and Korhonen on the all-conference team along with teammate Jo Bubar, had 12 digs and seven kills. Bubar added 13 digs and Victoria Rowe contributed 10 kills, nine digs, and three aces.
The Bengals defeated No. 3 University of Maine at Machias 3-0 in the first round winning 25-10, 25-19 and 25-12. Elisa Boyd, the conference Rookie of the Year, had eight digs and four assists for the Clippers.
