(Concord, N.H.)- The top-seeded University of Maine at Fort Kent women's basketball team will be going for their third straight Sunrise Conference women's basketball championship after defeating No.4 University of Maine at Machias 76-57 Saturday afternoon at New Hampshire Technical Institute. The Bengals improved to 17-8 overall while the Clippers end their season 16-9.
Fort Kent had opened an 11-point lead late in the first half before the Clippers reeled off a 10-0 run to pull within a point with just under a minute left.
A pair of free throw from Amber Garrison with 0.4 on the clock gave the Bengals a 39-34 halftime lead.
In the second half Fort Kent gradually pulled away from Machias as they were able to work their way inside for high percentage shots. They also controlled the glass out rebounding Machias 54-29, including a 19-8 advantage on the offensive end.
Kristen Violette posted her fifth double-double of the year with 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Bengals. Talisha Herring added 18 points. Morgan Chasse had 12 points and four steals and Garrison finished with six points and six assists.
Sabree Rodgriguez led Machias with 16 points and seven rebounds. Kayla Wood had 13 points. Jamyriah McPherson added 11 points and three rebounds and Kaeisha Parks contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
