(Sioux City, Iowa)- The University of Maine at Fort Kent women's basketball team couldn't overcome a big obstacle on Wednesday as they lost to top-seeded and top-ranked Hastings College (Neb.) 99-51 in the opening round of the NAIA Division II National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa.

That obstacle was 6'2" senior forward Lindsay Ducey who dropped in 25 first-half points en route to a game-high 32.  The three-time all-GPAC First Team selection also grabbed 14 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the year and sank four 3-pointers.

The Broncos (20-3), who will play Grand View University in the second round, did it inside and out against the three-time defending Sunrise Conference champions as they drilled 14 shots from beyond the arc and scored 46 points in the paint.

Fort Kent, who end the season at 19-9 overall, did score 36 second-half points after being held to just 15 in the opening 20 minutes.

Seniors Kristen Violette (left) and Talisha Herring, who were both named to the all-Sunrise Conference First Team, each scored 16 points to lead the Bengals.  Violette hit 6 of 7 of free throws and also grabbed seven rebounds and Herring had three 3-pointers and five boards.

Freshman Morgan Chasse added eight points and three rebounds and junior Amber Garrison chipped in with four points and six rebounds.

Sophia McDermott added 15 points, three rebounds and two assists for the Broncos and Becky Tesch and Heather McKeon each contributed nine points apiece.
