(Standish, Maine)- The top-seeded University of Maine at Presque Isle beat No. 3 University of Maine at Fort Kent 3-0 to claim the 2008 Sunrise Conference championship at Saint Joseph's College in Standish, Maine.

The Owls (16-3) beat the Bengals 25-7, 25-16 and 25-16 to capture the championship. 
Presque Isle also blanked Paul Smith's College 3-0 in the semifinals while Fort Kent beat No. 2 University of Maine at Machias 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 in the other semifinal.

In the opening match against Paul Smith's Megan Korhonen distributed 13 assists and recorded six aces for the Owls.  Eric Davis added eight kills and two aces and Michelle Ferry had five kills, two digs and two aces.     

In the other semifinal Ashley Ames nailed nine kills and had four digs to lead Fort Kent (7-11).  Geneice Bassue notched six kills, four digs and two aces and Katrina Wiggington added three kills, six digs and four aces.  The Clippers (9-19) were led by Megan Knowles who had six kills, five aces and two digs.  Stephanie Payton added eight assists, six digs and two kills and Alex Kolinich contributed six digs, three digs and three aces.

In the championship match Korhonen handed out 17 assists and had two aces.  Davis pounded down 13 kills and had four blocks and Ferry added nine kills, nine aces and three digs.  Bassue had seven kills for the Bengals.  Ames had four kills and three blocks and Wiggington added six aces and three kills.
