(Portland, Maine)- The Sunrise Conference announced their 2008 women's volleyball all-conference team and individual award winners at a brunch at Governor's Restaurant in Portland, Maine on Nov. 8 prior to the conference tournament.
Junior middle hitter Erica Davis of the University of Maine at Presque Isle was named the conference Player of the Year and to the all-conference team. Davis averaged 1.9 kills and 1.3 blocks per game.
Davis's coach, Terry Cummings, took home Coach of the Year honors after leading the Owls to the regular season and conference tournament championships. Presque Isle finished 16-3 this year and also was honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Katrina Wiggington of the University of Maine at Fort Kent was named Rookie of the Year. Wiggington averaged 1.0 kills and 0.6 service aces per game.
Joining Davis on the all-conference team was teammate, junior outside hitter Michelle Ferry who averaged 1.4 kills and 1.3 digs per game; freshman Stephanie Payton (2.7 digs, 0.8 aces) and sophomore Megan Knowles (1.7 kills, 1.8 digs) of the University of Maine at Machias; and sophomore setter Amber Garrison (4.2 assists, 0.5 digs) and senior outside hitter Tiffany Crowe of the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
Garrison also made the all-conference team last year.
